Development History

In 1967, Applied Materials was established in Mountain View, USA.

In 1979, Applied Materials Japan Branch was established and officially entered the Asian market.

In 1981, Applied Materials launched the AME8100 etching system.

In 1984, Applied Materials started business in China and became the first foreign-funded semiconductor production equipment supplier to enter China.

In 1989, Applied Materials established an office in Taiwan.

In 1994, it launched a PVD (physical vapor deposition) product: Endura VHP PVD system.

In 2001, the China regional headquarters was established in Shanghai.

In 2002, Applied Materials established a Maydan Technology Center in Silicon Valley, California, USA.

In 2006, a global development center was established in Xi’an, China, to provide engineering and software support services to applied materials company branches around the world.

In 2012, Applied Materials established a semiconductor advanced packaging research center in Singapore to develop 3D chip packaging technology.

In 2013, Gary E. Dickerson was appointed President and CEO of Applied Materials.

In 2014, Applied Materials celebrated its 30th anniversary in China.

In 2016, the revolutionary selective etching system Producer® Selectra™ system was launched.

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Applied Materials.

In 2018, Applied Materials announced the establishment of the Materials Engineering Technology Accelerator (META Center) at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute in Albany, New York.

The total R&D investment in 2019 reached US$2.1 billion.

In May 2021, Applied Materials announced the launch of a series of material engineering solutions to provide storage customers with three new ways to further scale down DRAM, and accelerate the improvement of chip performance, power, area, cost and market launch Time (ie: PPACt).
