Mr.Xiaocannowbesaidtobefullofpeachesandplums.However,thereporterinterviewedMr.XiaoIntheprocess,heneverforgetstomentionhisowntwoteachers,"Inmylifetherearetwoteacherswhohaveagreatinfluenceonme.OneisthelateProfessorChengQixiangwhotaughtmemathematicswhenIwasagraduatestudent.Mr.Chengtaught.Neverneedtogivelectures,andalwaysguidestudentsfromaresearchpointofviewtopursuetheprocessoffindingthetruth.Forexample,teachtheestablishmentofalargermathematicalsysteminanexistingsystem,andfirstindicatethattheoriginalsystemisnotenoughinrealityandneedstobeexpanded..Beforeexpansion,wemustfirstsummarizethemainadvantagesoftheoriginalsystem,inordertobuildthenewsystemtomaintaintheseadvantages(compatibility).Asforhowtoexpand,wehopethattheexpandedsystemisthelargestsystemwiththeseadvantages(completeness)Mr.Chengexplainedtheseeminglyboringmathematicsasmethodicalandlogicalasphilosophy.Healsooftensaidthatinancienttimes,thereisasayingthatalittlestonebecomesgold.Ihopethateveryonewillnotstareatthegold,butcarefullylookatthehandofthestone.Goforit.Thesethoughtshaveaffectedmylife."
Mr.Xiaowasobviouslyverygratefulfortheteachingsoftheteachers,andcontinuedtotellreporters,"TheotherteacherwhohashadadeepimpactonmeisnowoverAcademicianChenTaiyiinthe8thyear.Intheearly1960s,Mr.Chenledseveralyoungpeopletoorganizeinformationseminars.Hewasverykeenonnewtheoriesandnewideas.Heleduswhenwewereyoung(thelateProfessorLiangChuanjia,ProfessorWangYumin,ProfessorWangXinmei)haveenteredthefieldofinformationtheory,codingandcryptographysofar.WhatismoreimportantisthedeepimpressionandprofoundinfluencebroughttomebyMr.Chen’snoblepersonalitycharm.AcademicianChenTaiyi,AcademicianZhouJiongpan,andCaiChangnianTheprofessorsarethefoundersofourcountry'sinformationtheorydiscipline.Thebeautifulfriendshipbetweenthemandmeandtheirrespectiveoutstandingcharactershaveprofoundlyaffectedmeandareagreatassetinmylife.Iamgratefultohavesuchgreatfriendsthroughoutmylife.Together,wehaveexperiencedthetestoftheeraofclassstruggle('humanpunishing'),andalsothetestoffameandfortuneonsciencesincethereformandopeningup."
NowTeacherXiaolookspeacefulandpeaceful,ButwhenImentionedthepast,TeacherXiaocouldn'thelpfeelingalittlebit,"ThestormoftheCulturalRevolutionmademeunderstandlife.Decadesofclassstrugglehascausedourcountrytolosemanyoutstandingtalents.Iwillsurviveasasurvivor.Iamasurvivor.Ifeelthataperson’slifeenablesmetodosomethingandstay,butIcan’tdonon-discriminatorydelusions.Keepinmindtheancientmottoof“Thereisaskyoutsideofthesky”.Nevercareaboutthegrievancesthathavepassedaway,becauseitisadisasterforourentirecountryandnation.IfweliveinindividualsalldaylongInthemidstofthegrievancesandgainsandlosses,itwouldbetootiring.Theso-called‘broadnessofheavenandearth,toleranceisgreat’isalsooneofthebeautifulqualitiesofhumanbeings.Ipersonallyhavemanyshortcomingsandhavedonemanywrongthings,butIcanalsotoleratetheshortcomingsandfaultsofothers."Learningwithproblems,learningflexibly,andlearningfirstinurgencymaybethereason.Sincetheearly1970s,ProfessorXiaoGuozhenhashostedandorganizednationalorinternationalcryptographyacademicconferencesandmadeimportantreports,oftenincollegesanduniversities.Institutionsandresearchinstitutesteachcryptographyknowledge.IfentrustedbytheMinistryofElectronics,theyhavehostedthefirst,secondandthirdnationalcryptographicconferences.Onceinvitedasaspecialrepresentativeatthe25thInternationalKanahanSecurityTechnologyConference,hewasaspecialinvitedacademicReport.ItisoneoftheearliestscholarsinChinawhoadvocatedtheresearchofcivilcryptography,andalsooneofthefirstscholarstointroducethepublickeycryptosystemtoChina.ItwaswidelypromotedinthenationaldefensesystemandPekingUniversity.
Speakingofteachingandeducatingpeople,TeacherXiaosaid,"Idonotapproveofthedignityofteachers.Iagreethateveryoneisequalbeforethetruth.Overtheyears,Isubjectivelyregardedstudentsasfriends,gaveyoungpeoplefullacademicfreedom,andmadecontinuousprogressintheprocessof'teachingandlearning.'Mystudentscomefromprofessionalfieldsincludingmathematics,computer,communicationandsoon.Theyhelpeachotherandloveeachotherandlearnfromeachother,whichisverybeneficial."ProfessorXiaoGuozhenhasservedasvisitingprofessorinuniversitiesinGermany,Canada,theNetherlands,France,Japan,Singaporeandothercountries.HehasbeeninuniversitiesinFrance,theUnitedStates,Canada,Denmark,Switzerlandandothercountries,aswellasPekingUniversityandFudanUniversityinChina.Theuniversitygaveshort-termlectures.Intheearly1970s,heactivelyparticipatedinthecentralizedtrainingofcryptographytalentsoftheThirdDepartmentoftheGeneralStaffoftheChinesePeople'sLiberationArmy,andcontributedtothetrainingofcryptographytalentsurgentlyneededbythestate'sconfidentialdepartments.Since1979andSinceenrollingmasterstudentsanddoctoralstudentsrespectivelyin1991,wehavecultivatedmanyoutstandingtalentsforourcountry’seducationalandscientificresearchinstitutions.Amongthegraduatestudentswhohavebeenguidedandtrained,somehavebecomeinternationallyrenownedscholarsinthefieldofcryptography,suchasLaiXuejiaandDingCunsheng,andsomeareinTheparty,government,andmilitarydepartmentsplayakeyrole,suchasLiuFuyun,HeLiangsheng,FengDengguo,etc.ProfessorXiaoGuozhenwasawardedasanoutstandingteacheroftheMinistryofElectronicsin1985,andwasawardedtheNationalHigherEducationInstitutionbytheStateEducationCommissionandtheNationalScienceandTechnologyCommissionin1990.Advancedscienceandtechnologyworkers”,begantoenjoyspecialgovernmentallowancesin1991,andwasratedasanexpertwithoutstandingcontributionsinShaanxiProvinceinthesameyear.Becauseofhisoutstandingcontributionstonationaldefense,hewonthefirstprizeofGuanghuaScienceandTechnologyFundin1992andShaanxiProvincein1998.ProvincialExcellentDoctoralTutorsandothertitles.
Nowisanimpetuoussociety.Comparedwiththepast,theyoungpeopleofthisgenerationhavemoreandmorechoices,sometimestoomanytochoose.AboutthisQuestion,TeacherXiaothinksthisway:youngpeopleshouldhaveagoodacademicfoundationiftheywanttoachievegreatersuccess,theyshouldbeabletosettledownonlearning,anddon’tbetootemptedbythecommodityeconomy.AsaclassictreecatalogueandliteratureforthismajorYoumustreadcarefully.Buttherearetoomanyunreadablebooks,otherwiseyouwillnotfinishreadinginyourlife,andyouwillbecomeanerd.Onthebasisofreading,youmustlearnto"learnwith(thesubjectoftheresearch)problem,learnandapplyitflexibly."“Usingurgentlyandlearningfirst”willmakeachievements.Asforthecurrentbraindrainproblem,Mr.Xiaoattributedittotwopoints:oneisduetothemanagementsystemandacademicenvironment,andtheotheristhesalaryissue.Mr.Xiaoonlyneedstohavegreaterinthesetwoaspects.Improvement,manypeoplewillcomeback.Becauseindevelopedcountries,thephenomenonofdiscriminationagainstChinesepeoplewillnotchangeinashorttime.
