SchoolHistory
In1827,whenTexaswasastateofMexico,itwasplannedintheConstitutionEstablishpublichighereducationinstitutions.In1836,aftertheindependenceoftheRepublicofTexas,theissuedconstitutionclearlystipulatedthattwouniversitiesorcollegeswouldbeestablishedwithintheterritory;in1839,thestatelegislatureapprovedtheallocationof40acresofAustinlandforhighereducation.Therefore,theUniversityofTexasoftentakesthename40acres(40acres)inordertotraceitsorigins.However,becauseTexaslaterjoinedtheUnitedStatesandtheCivilWar,theschoolplanwasdelayedalltheway.Afterdecadesofdelay,in1876,thestatelegislatureagainproposedaplantoestablisha"high-leveluniversity."Itwasnotuntil1881thatAustinwasdeterminedtobethelocationofthispublicuniversity.InNovember1882,theconstructionofthecampusbegan.OnSeptember15,1883,theUniversityofTexasatAustinofficiallystartedclasseswithateachingbuilding,eightprofessors,onesuperintendentand221students.
TheUniversityofTexasatAustinisaworld-renownedinstitutionofhighereducation,research,andpublicservice.Theannualresearchfundingisashighas640millionU.S.dollars.

AustinnameListedinthe5bestcitiestoliveintheUnitedStates,surroundedbybeautifulmountainsandlakes,withpleasantscenery,itisalsooneofthepoliticalcentersoftheUnitedStates.Freshmenarenotrequiredtoliveoncampus,theycanchoosetoliveatschooloroffcampus.However,mostfreshmenwillchoosetoliveinschoolbecauseitismoreconvenienttoliveinschool.Alldormitoriesareequippedwithsimplefurnitureandnecessaryelectricalappliances,andcentralairconditioningisstandard.

Inadditiontoon-campusdormitories,studentsliveoff-campusintheseplaces:
WestCampus
Mostbusinessschoolstudentswillchoosetoliveinthisareabecauseitisclosertothebusinessschoolandhasbetterfacilities.However,comparedwithotherdistricts,therentonwestcampusisgenerallyhigher,anditisalsoInareaswheretherearemoreparties,therearemanymeetingplacesforbrothers/sisters.
NorthCampus
ComparedtoWC,NC’shouseisolder,buttheadvantageisthatitisquieter,unlikeWCwheretherearemanyparties.Thisareaisthefirstchoiceforengineeringstudents.Asfortherent,itisslightlycheaperthanWC,butitisstillmoreexpensivethanotherareas.
FarWest
Thisareaissuitableforgraduatestudentswhohaveacarordonothavemorningclasses.Theenvironmentisverygood,itisquiet,andthepublicsecurityisgood.Thedisadvantageisthatitisfarawayandtrafficisnotgood.Convenient,buttherearestillspecialschoolbusesforgoingtoschool.HousepricesinthisareaaremuchcheaperthanWCandNC.
Riverside
InadistrictwithalotofblacksandMexicans,itisnotrecommendedforfreshmentolivein.Thepublicsecurityisnotgood,buttherenthereisreallycheapanditisfarfromtheschool,althoughthereareSchoolbus,butitmaybemorecongestedduringrushhours.
LakeAustin
Theareawheregraduatestudentsanddoctoralstudentsliveisnotfarfromtheschool.Therearespecialschoolbusesandtherentischeap.Therearethreecommunitiestochoosefrom,butyouneedtomakeanappointmentintheschoolsystemtoqueueup,andthewaitingtimeislonger.
Dining
Theschoolhas2cafeteriasofferingbuffets,2retailstores,and6smallcafesdottedaroundtheschool.Astheschooldiningenvironmentisverygood,thesceneryoutsidethewindowisalsorefreshing,soeatingatschoolisaverypleasantthing.TheschoolprovidesboardingstudentswithDiningDollarsforboardingstudentstoeatintheschool’ssupermarketorrestaurant.ThepriceisdefinitelythecheapestamongAmericanuniversities.
