OriginalBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine
In1956,theschoolwasestablishedintheshippingwarehouseofBeijing,undertheformerMinistryofHealth.ItwastheearliesthigherinstitutionofChinesemedicineapprovedbytheStateCouncil.Oneoftheschools.
InSeptember1960,theschoolwasidentifiedasoneofthe64nationalkeyuniversitiesandoneofthefivenationalkeymedicalschools.
FromJuly1971toNovember1977,theschoolmergedwiththeformerAcademyofChineseMedicineoftheMinistryofHealth(nowtheChinaAcademyofChineseMedicalSciences),retainingthenameandorganizationalsystemofthecollege.
In1978,theschoolwasonceagainidentifiedasanationalkeyuniversity.
In1981,theschoolbecamethefirstbatchofuniversitiesinthecountrywiththerighttograntdoctorateandmasterdegrees.
In1993,theschoolwasrenamedBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
In1996,theschoolbecameakeyconstructionuniversityinthenational"211Project".
BeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandMoxibustion
In1986,BeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandMoxibustionwasfoundedbyChinaHostedbytheAcademyofChineseMedicine.
In1987,BeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandMoxibustionwasrenamedBeijingCollegeofAcupuncture,MoxibustionandOrthopedics.
In1992,theChinaAcademyofTraditionalChineseMedicine(HealthSchool)wasmergedintoBeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandOrthopedics,andreorganizedintoBeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandOrthopedics(affiliatedtoChineseMedicineSchool).
In1997,theInstituteofOrthopedicsandTraumatologyofChinaAcademyofTraditionalChineseMedicineandtheInstituteofAcupunctureandMoxibustionofChinaAcademyofTraditionalChineseMedicineweremergedintoBeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandOrthopedics.

In2000,theschoolmergedwiththeformerBeijingSchoolofAcupunctureandOrthopedicstoformanewBeijingMiddleSchoolTheMedicalUniversityisdirectlyundertheMinistryofEducation.TheSchoolofTraditionalChineseMedicineAffiliatedtoBeijingCollegeofAcupunctureandOrthopedicswasmergedintoBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.In2006,BeijingMetallurgicalHospitalwasmergedintoBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineandbecamethethirdaffiliatedhospitalofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
In2008,theschoolwasselectedtoimplementtheNationalUniversityStudentInnovativeExperimentalProgram.
In2011,theschoolbecameaconstructionuniversityof"985ProjectAdvantageDisciplineInnovationPlatform".InJune,BeijingErqiLocomotiveFactoryHospitalandBeijingTongzhouDistrictHospitalofTraditionalChineseMedicineweremergedintoDongzhimenHospitalofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
In2012,theschoolwasselectedtoimplementtheNationalUniversityStudentInnovationandEntrepreneurshipTrainingProgram.InJuly,theschoolwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchofdemonstrationbasesforstudyinginChinabytheMinistryofEducation.
InOctober2014,ZaozhuangTraditionalChineseMedicineHospitalwaslistedasBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineZaozhuangHospitalandBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineFourthClinicalSchool.
InApril2015,theschoolwasselectedasapilotuniversityforthereformoftheNationalOutstandingDoctor(TraditionalChineseMedicine)EducationandTrainingProgram.InOctober,theLiangxiangcampusofBeijingUniversityofChineseMedicinewasinaugurated.InDecember,theschoolbecameafoundingmemberofthealliancetocreateaworld-classuniversityofChinesemedicine.
InJanuary2016,BeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineBarcelonabranchwasestablished.InOctober,theLonggangDistrictHospitalofTraditionalChineseMedicinewaslistedastheShenzhenHospitalofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineandtheFifthClinicalMedicalCollegeofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.InDecember,DalianMunicipalGovernment,WafangdianMunicipalGovernmentandBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicinesignedacooperationagreementontheDaliancampusofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
InSeptember2017,BeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicinewasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"DoubleFirstClass"world-classdisciplineconstructionuniversitiesinthecountry.InNovember,BeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicinewasawardedthesecondbatchofnationaldemonstrationuniversitiesfordeepeninginnovationandentrepreneurshipeducationreform.InDecember,XiamenHospitalofTraditionalChineseMedicinewaslistedastheEighthClinicalSchoolofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineandXiamenHospitalofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
InJune2018,FangshanHospitalofTraditionalChineseMedicinewasofficiallyhostedbyBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine,andthesixthclinicalschoolofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicinewasestablished,namelyFangshanHospitalofBeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicine.
InDecember2019,6medicalschoolsincludingBeijingUniversityofChineseMedicineinitiatedtheestablishmentoftheBeijingUniversityAlliancefortheCultivationofExcellentMedicalTalents.Inthesamemonth,BeijingUniversityofTraditionalChineseMedicineandHuaweiTechnologiesCo.,Ltd.signedastrategiccooperationframeworkagreement.
InJuly2020,itwasselectedintothesecondbatchofuniversities'nationalintellectualpropertyinformationservicecenterconstructionlist.OnSeptember27,joinedtheHealthAllianceforPovertyAlleviation.InOctober,itwasdesignatedbytheStateIntellectualPropertyOfficeandtheMinistryofEducationasthe2020NationalIntellectualPropertyPilotUniversity.
